Martha, Susan E. and I spent DAYS in Olympia, either demonstrating (Sure was wet out there) or testifying before several legislative committees. We were working with a coalition called, Sisters Organize for Survival. Some of the ideas our legislature presented as possible taxes were laughable, and they passed them!
A Candy Tax? A soda tax? And this was sold as a stable source of funds for needed programs.
What they did not (For the most part) want was a state income tax on the richest Washingtonians. There are those who fought the good fight, Like Rosa Franklin, Mary Lou Dickerson, and all the others with sense!
